Grant Request

Application Process

  1. To apply for funding, please complete and submit a Letter of Interest via email by January 1.
  2. If your letter of interest is approved, we will notify you in March. Once your letter of interest is approved, you will be required to submit a full grant application.
  3. Grant applications must be received by 5:00 pm on June 1.
  4. You will receive notification of the status of your application by December 5.

Funding Guidelines

  • If a proposal is declined, applicants must wait at least one year before reapplying.
  • The Foundation will make some multi-year grants. However, an organization may not receive a grant for more than three consecutive years.
  • Upon completion of any project or program which has been funded, the Foundation requires an evaluation and a brief report including a list of expenditures relating to the grant. For ongoing programs, periodic program reports with evaluations are required.
  • We prefer to fund programs in the range of $5,000-$40,000

Eligibility

Must be a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt non-profit designated organization. Located in or directly serving the greater Chicago area.

We do not fund requests that benefit:

  • Political lobbying or legislative activities
  • Requests from individuals
  • Medical and scientific research
  • Films, program advertising, conferences, seminars, benefits and fundraising costs
  • Start-up organizations, emergency funds, and deficit financing
  • Endowment funds and conduit organizations

Step 1 - Letter of Interest

The Pelino Charitable Foundation utilizes the Letters of Interest as a way to determine if your organization meets grant requirements and your mission is in line with the mission of the Foundation.

The Pelino Charitable Foundation asks that your narrative be brief, but more importantly, provide a succinct and thorough presentation of the need or problem that you have identified, the proposed solution, and your organization’s qualifications for implementing that solution.

Your Letter of Interest should include

  1. Summary of your organization – provide a brief history and description of your current programs.
  2. Synopsis of project – provide a description of the project/program for which you are requesting funding, including goals, target population, and a brief description of the evaluative methodology and long term impact.
  3. Organizational capacity – explain your organization’s qualifications and infrastructure for the project.
  4. Budget – include the amount requested from the Foundation and an estimate of the overall budget of the project.
  5. Funders – include a list of the top five funders and the grant/gift amounts.
